Q: What makes a candidate qualified for a car hauler jobs with your company?
A: There’s a standard application process we follow from the US Department of Transportation (USDoT) http://www.dot.gov/ and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/. Don’t let the word “standard” fool you, though. We’re extremely particular about who we hire. Yes, it’s a job for a car hauler, but we’re also looking at it as a career for a car hauler.
Q: Exactly how particular are you?
A: We hold our company to very high standards and do the same with our drivers. It is important to be 100 percent honest on your application about your driving history and any criminal history you may have. Even if we check your MVR record and it turns up fine, we’re still going to check your Pre-employment Screening Program (PSP) score, which will show accidents, violations and/or infractions from out of state that the MVR may not. This may just be a job hauling cars for you, only it’s an investment for us and a chance we’re taking on you representing us with our customers.
Q: Can you give me some examples of information you’ll ask me to give you on the application?
A: For the most part, it’s pretty standard and nothing unexpected. Any job for a car hauler is going to require you do disclose a number of years of employment. We require you to disclose your last 10 years of employment history—including any unemployment during that time. If you have any gaps that are 6 months or longer without any employment during that time, then we require an accompanying explanation.
We’ll also need three years of your driving history and any accidents or drug testing (and accompanying results), which is required by law.
